Grey Iron Castings
Grey iron castings are cast in green sand and on bake mold processes. It has made its presence in a wide range of products used in automotives, aerospace and transportation industries. Known for its resistance to cracking and high temperatures, gray cast iron of high quality is brought to you in its best way by B.K.Castings.
Grey Iron is the oldest form of cast iron and available in the most common way. The terms "cast iron" and "gray iron" are used interchangeably. Gray Iron named after its gray color appearance, consists of carbon that is in the form of flake graphite that is made of ferrite or pearlite or a mixture of both. Gray Iron is used for a number of production purposes, like shrinkage free castings, intricate castings due to its liquidity characteristics and ability to expand during the solidification process due to the formation of graphite.
Grey Iron Casting Process
- We can produce casting in Co2, N-bake, Four - part ABC, and Green Sand process.
- Manufacturing & inspection of pattern as per customer's drawing, specification with close tolerances.
- Preparation of disposable wax patterns by injection molding & inspection of wax patterns.
- Assembling of wax patterns on runner to form assembly. 5. Building a ceramic shell by alternate dipping of the assembly in a ceramic slurry and stuccoing under controlled conditions of humidity as temperature.
- Drying and de- waxing the ceramic shells.
- Pouring melting metal in the sintered shell, fettling, and heat treatment and cleaning of the casting.
- Inspection and testing which includes 100% visual inspection, dimensional checks, non destructive examinations.

Ductile Iron Castings
Ductile Iron, being a collection of materials, it has to offer a wide range of properties due to microstructure control. It shares the property of consisting of rough and spherically shaped graphite nodules which act as crack - arresters thus making the iron ductile. This makes the iron more consistent and is measured very accurately in the Iron foundries.
Developed in the 1940s it has been used in numerous engineering and casting applications. Crack-promoting graphite flakes of iron undergo alloying process to give this ductile iron nodule. With the help of the microstructural transformation process, metal with superior quality, ductility, elongation characteristics and machinability is obtained. Metal that has to offer unique strength, wear and tear resistance, fatigue resistance and toughness is obtained. Metal with high ductility is also obtained thus making it suitable for investment.
